Originally it was a small Northern territory that was struggling with infertile soil and fear of being invaded by neighboring nations. Zaibach remained this way for several decades until the arrival of Dornkirk who would become the future emperor of Zaibach and turn it into an industrial power. The people yearned for a strong leader and the reassurance of a powerful military force after living in such harsh conditions. For spoilers highlight here. It was because of the power of these people's thoughts that their deliverance came. On Earth he was known as the scientist Issac who had discovered the laws of gravity. Due to his own remorse at failing to control destiny he and the people of Zaibach brought him from his deathbed to Gaea where he witnessed the suffering of the people. He became determined to use his knowledge and skills to control the laws of fate for the future of Zaibach and had given himself a new name: Dornkirk. And thus Dornkirk created the Zaibach Empire, a representation of a world that would be united by his Machiavellian ambitions and technological discoveries. His ambitions grew as he wanted to control all of Gaea and in order to do this he created the Destiny-Predicting Device, which allows him to see the fate of anyone and everyone on Gaea. He sends out his forces of soldiers and guymelefs in order to find the white dragon Escaflowne, one of the keys he needs in his pursuit of the secrets of the ancient Atlantis and its power. He needs it in order to complete his final objective the "alteration of fate."
