the guymelefs
the guymelefs
During the Great War on Gaea victories were dealt in hand-to-hand combat just like the wars from Medieval Earth, although the big difference is the use of powerful mechas called Guymelefs. Humanoid in shape and five times as big, they are a type of armor that is piloted from the inside. Their power supply is derived from energists, which resonate when placed inside them. These weapons of destruction have come to symbolize the battles of Gaea. Only the country with the strongest guymelefs would be able to turn the tide of war. The primary guymelef that is used by the Zaibach Empire is the Alseides. Created by Strategos Folken along with the other sorcerers, the Alseides is one of the more advanced guymelefs in Gaea. It is well equipped with a variety of weapons such as claws and flamethrowers, but the two main chief armaments are the crima claws and stealth cloaks. The crima claws are a type of liquid metal which, when shoot out of the arm of the guymelef, have the ability to change its form be it a spear or a saber. They can shoot from miles of distance but can also be used in hand-to-hand combat as swords by the pilot inside. The advantage the Alseides holds over other guymelefs is the stealth cloaks. These were designed by Folken himself, they enable the guymelefs and their pilots to become invisible and also give them the ability to go into flight mode, which no other guymelef models can do. The next guymelef that we see used is the Oreades, an enhanced prototype of the Alseides. Its power is increased due to the energists that are placed on its shoulders. They are equipped with the same weapons as the Alseides but we only get to see them until the very end of Escaflowne. Only two units were made, which are piloted by Dilandau and Jajuka. It takes great skill to maneuver these tall giants but Dilandau is a top-notch pilot as are the other Dragon Slayers. You can pinpoint Dilandau's guymelefs because his are painted red while the others are a gray blue in color. |
