Escaflowne the Movie: A Girl in Gaea is based on an alternate universe that differentiates from the anime series. It's a different plot from the original one of the series and introduces a few characters while leaving some out as well.
In the movie, Hitomi is a lack-luster version of her anime self and contemplates thoughts of suicide and death when she is confronted by Folken and also meets Van for the first time. Apparently she is the Goddess of Wings and is needed in order to save Gaea. Even though she doesn't understand any of it, she agrees to help Van and thus they embark on their journey. Dilanda first appears on top of a hill with a row of men on horseback. His look is a lot different than in the series, he wears a mostly white uniform and has more masculine features. He and the dragon slayers were sent by Folken to kidnap the Goddess of Wings and stop Van and company. He asks Chesta if he can see the Goddess of Wings. Chesta throws his head back and his eyes turn freaky but he tells Dilandau she is there and where she precisely is. With a grin, Dilandau charges them into battle. As they attack, Hitomi is kidnapped by a wolf-like creature who is chased after by Van. As they confront one another, Dilandau happens upon them and orders Van to hand over Hitomi. Van stomps his foot onto the ground and sends Dilanda flying. After he gets up, Dilandau muses that Van can use magic and then they start to fight using magic against one another. Both become seriously injured. We don't see Dilanda again until he is standing in front of Folken who berates him for not capturing Hitomi. Dilandau tries to retaliate but Folken uses magic against him and sends Dilandau flying and nearly chokes him. He tells Dilandau that only those of Dragon blood can use Escaflowne and he can as well since he is half Draconian -- that surprised me as well. Later we see Dilandau inside his guymelef attached to wires that are draining his blood for him to be able to pilot it. This is a special scene that shows us even in the movie the dragon slayers are loyal to Dilandau for they vow to kill the sorcerer's if anything happens to him. The next we see Dilandau is when he faces off with Van again in his red guymelef but Van is the stronger opponent and as they fight, the tables go in Van's favor. Only when he gets taken over by Escaflowne does Dilandau have a chance to escape and run away. In his underwear no less. ^.~ The last we see of Dilandau in the movie is after Folken is beaten, and Van and Hitomi escape. Dilandau with his men are on horseback and he says he's just going to leave. So he and his men ride off together in the sunrise. |
